What did I do? My Role

I led the design, user testing and development of this project from end to end. I collaborated with 2 product designers (Esther, Archie) during the early ideation stage and the lead product manager (Laurin) throughout the entire project

Why?

As a B2C2B product, the idea was to make Quizizz the student’s and teacher’s preferred teaching/learning OS. This would in turn influence purchase decisions at the school and district levels.

What did I learn?

The thrill and challenges of designing for core production software and how to optimize gamification practices for the classroom.

Problem & Context

Canada’s senior population is projected to reach 10.7 million by 2040, nearly 25% of the country.

Many older adults depend on long-distance train travel for medical appointments, family visits, and leisure, which are vital to their independence and well-being.

VIA Rail, Canada’s national passenger rail service, must adapt to this demographic shift. Without age-friendly design, seniors risk reduced mobility, isolation, and lower quality of life.

Key Question:
How might we improve the train travel experience for seniors—making it more accessible, comfortable, and aligned with their needs?

Goals

  • Understand seniors' real-world challenges in planning and taking train trips

  • Design age-inclusive tools for booking, boarding, and on-board experience

  • Reduce travel anxiety and increase independence

  • Provide actionable insights for future VIA Rail service development

Conclusion

The modernization of the subscription management platform successfully addressed the core usability issues and improved the overall user experience. By focusing on simplifying the interface and optimizing workflows, we were able to create a more efficient and enjoyable platform for users. The significant improvements in user engagement, satisfaction, and subscription rates underscore the importance of user-centric design in achieving business success.
